In alignment with Jubilee brand messaging, “She’s On Her Way” positions program residents as empowered individuals who are leading their own journey out of homelessness. Donors are positioned as supporters, not saviors. This messaging approach was intentional and distinct from most nonprofit fundraising communications in that it lessens the power differential between the donor and the recipient.</image:caption>

The client wanted to strike a tone that was conversational and disarming to benefit a consumer audience not familiar with industry terms and protocol. Instead of charging per video, I negotiated a bulk video package discount that secured 50% payment up front for all videos, followed by a final payment per video as they were delivered. This retainer-like incentive provided financial stability for me during a long-term project.</image:caption>

We would set up a booth with information about our program and ways to get involved, and give away various swag items including stickers. When the pandemic shut down our community events, I pitched the idea of a sticker postcard as a way to thank Jubilee supporters while still giving them an artifact of their support.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>As a development team, we wanted to redesign the newsletter to something that would stand out more in a stack of mail. It was previously designed as an 8 ½ x 11 sheet that folded into a standard #10 envelope, and we redesigned as a booklet self mailer that would grab attention in the mailbox. I pitched all the story ideas, conducted interviews with the Executive Director, residents, and program alumni, and I turned those interviews into stories. I also designed the newsletter, project managed the creative process and internal approvals, and coordinated with the print mailing house. The newsletter fit into our overall donor communication plan as a follow-up to the Spring appeal campaign, but I also produced it as a timeless collection of stories we could repurpose for any donor or group who wanted to know more about the impact of Jubilee’s program.</image:caption>

This approach was intentional and distinct from classic nonprofit fundraising messaging which typically creates a wide power gap between the donor and the receiver. As a development team, we continually evaluated our own messaging to ensure we didn’t perpetuate this power gap. Additionally, the “She’s On Her Way” campaign was developed with longevity and versatility in mind. When applied to specific areas of Jubilee’s program, the message could adjust accordingly for focused campaigns. For instance, “She’s On Her Way to a College Education,” or “She’s On Her Way to a New Career.”</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Jubilee Women's Center held a free boutique Retail Therapy Day in September for their residents during the COVID lockdown. I shot some video footage on my iPhone, quickly edited it in Adobe Premiere Pro, and uploaded to our social media accounts. This example is consistent with the tone and style of social media during my time in this role - little snippets or slices of life from Jubilee residents and staff, meant to convey the homey and community vibe of the program. Additionally, the production lift was intentionally simplified and lightweight, as I prioritized frequent and authentic posts versus polished posts with high production value.</image:caption>
